Description: Although leadership is a challenge, it is also a responsibility. In our own way, and according to our own skills, interests, and talents, we are all called upon to be leaders. Based on the broad-based and unique skills that we learn and apply as Industrial and Systems Engineers, this is particularly true for persons in our profession. In this talk, the speaker focuses on the challenges and responsibilities of leadership. First, he focuses on general characteristics of leaders, supported by two case studies. Next, he reveals the ways that the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) is providing leadership in six key, strategic areas. Finally, he discusses the grand challenges ahead of us, and challenges the audience to provide leadership in these areas.
